Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain

29 March @ 9.33 am

The Horrible Histories series takes (mostly British) history and turns it into a series of gags with a semi-serious purpose (there are facts as well as jokes, and most of the jokes are in some way factual). The stage version is even less didactic and more fun than the books, so this should make for great family entertainment – you don’t even need to know much British history, though it does help to appreciate why jokes about Henry VIII’s marital arrangements might be worth including. As the bumf for this touring production from Birmingham Stage Company has it: “It’s the horrible history of Britain with the nasty bits left in … Can you beat battling Boudicca? Would you be a martyr for the Magna Carta? Will you lose your heart or head to horrible Henry VIII? Will Parliament survive gunpowder Guy? Dare you stand and deliver to dastardly Dick Turpin? Escape the clutches of Burke and Hare and move to the groove with party Queen Victoria!”

There are shows at 1pm and 4pm.
