Alserkal Summer Programme: Foretold Now – A New Architectural Utopia
3 August @ 4.00 pm - 6.00 pmFree, but pre-register
The 500th anniversary of the foundation of the Château de Chambord was the catalyst for this project by architecture students in the AUS College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD). Examining the French Renaissance gem in the context of the utopian worldview it implies, the students’ proposal, entitled Ecotopos, imagines a new kind of utopia that considers the environmental and ecological challenges we face today. A performative reading of this essay will be accompanied by a video and selected Ecotopos imagery.
This is part of a programme of debate, music, and dialogue on the theme of forecasting the future: what drives our need to prophesy and speculate? What are the dangers? What kind of demands does our perception of future outcomes place on the present? And is the future over-hyped? An interesting exercise, curated with no little imagination and a lot of variety by Kevin Jones and running every Saturday to 14 September.
All events are free but space is limited so pre-registration is essential at email@example.com.
