Exhibition celebrating the date palm, indelibly part of the cultural, historical and economic identity of the Gulf. Seven designers from the region were invited to work on commissioned pieces within textile design, contemporary couture fashion and more in relation to the topic of the date palm trees – by referencing the trees’ various functions, fibres, compositions, colours, structures, nourishments, haptics and their sheer beauty as well as uniqueness at large in their creations.
Alongside the commissions, the curators and Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council has developed a research project with Dr Sandra Piesik that will be on show at the exhibition.
The exhibition is co-curated by Emirati fashion designer/curator Khulood bin Thani and Fatma Al Mahmoud (Head of 1971 Design Space).
