Fado – Music from Portugal
13 November @ 8.30 pm - 10.00 pmAED 275
This should be a great intro to Portugal’s emblematic musical style. Fado is a style of singing, traditionally associated with pubs and cafés, that is noted for its expressive melancholic character; ‘fado’ translates as ‘destiny’ or ‘fate’, and the genre is also heavily associated with saudade — an untranslatable sense of a deep longing for something or someone that is absent or loss (take a hankie).
This show features three noted Portuguese performers – top fadista singer Ana Laíns: “Portuguese guitar” player João Pedro Vaz: and classical (Spanish) guitarist André Santos; here’s a taste of what you might expect, Ana Laíns singing Pouco Tempo (basically ‘too little time’, which sums up the mood of fado).
