The Jameel’s annual festival devoted to helping the young explore a possible future in the arts is pitched at “all high school and university students, teachers, developing professionals and creatively minded youth in the UAE”. Day one is aimed at everyone – individuals but also families and teachers – while the second and thirds days (9 and 10 Oct) are group visits by school and universities only.
This second iteration of Creative Careers Days carries the title You Can’t Have Art Without … and aims to showcase “the multiple roles that can contribute to the growth of the arts ecosystem”. The intention is to show how interests and specialisations from outside the arts/creative bubble can be relevant; so topics like business, accounting and law to humanities, social studies and languages will be demonstrated to have a place in the creative industries.
Students are invited to join career surgery sessions to receive expert advice and guidance on navigating the creative industries. An additional multimedia research zone features behind-the-scenes videos and resources, while the Jameel Library displays a special range of resources on pedagogy and arts education for both students and teachers. Jameel Arts Centre itself is activated fully throughout the event: in the Lobby, visitors are invited to join career consultation sessions and receive expert advice on navigating the creative industries. Meanwhile the first floor gallery spaces will be taken over by 30 or so booths from arts organisations and universities from the UAE “and beyond”; and the Jameel Library features a special range of resources on pedagogy and arts education for faculty and education professionals.
