Cie Samuel Mathieu: Guerre
24 September @ 8.00 am - 5.00 pmAED 78.50 – AED 157
The French dance company, founded and choreographed by Samuel Mathieu, has been touring this piece for some months to universal acclaim. It’s a production for three dancers and three acrobats (actually sanglistes, acrobats who use hanging straps) with music by Maxime Denuc; it’s based on an unfinished 1954 project by Yves Klein, La Guerre (de la ligne et de couleur).
The creator of International Klein Blue had sketched out a work that mixed music, dance and film to argue that drawing has always had domination over pure colour. For Klein this represented a struggle between metaphysical principles; Samuel Mathieu has realised this with dance, acrobatics, music and image to show the contrast between control and raw energy, between dynamic and fixed space, between solidity and weightlessness. That provides the scenario for a high-energy, highly physical spectacle full of striking images and dramatic moves.
