The new season’s first open-all-evening mini-festival at Alserkal Avenue. It’s the mix as before, only more so – the galleries are staying open late, most with brand new shows, and so are the eateries and coffee shops. But added to that is a collection of “soundscapes, multimedia exhibitions, and live music performance” for “an evening of cultural discovery”.
This year the Yard will be home to new botanical and architectural features – greening by Zain Masud, architecture by T.Sakhi – to celebrate local craftsmanship and rediscover native plants. A specially commissioned soundscape by Safeya Alblooshi (“an immersive sonic creation that intricately weaves together the past, present, and potential future of The Yard”) will also be revealed on the night.
Programming will take place throughout the evening with free music from the rather good The Tasty Biscuits performing in The Yard at 7pm and the excellent Majaz in The Fridge Warehouse at 8.30pm; a series of Slow Art Walks touring around some of the art exhibitions; the oldest waterhole cam in Africa (Djuma Private Game Reserve) and the world Wild Earth on the Yard’s new screens; and a world music-Arabic Folk open venue concert at The Fridge.
