AAMF 2019 Classical Evening
17 January @ 6.00 pm - 10.00 pmFree
The always-entertaining Al Ain Music Festival features a selection of local artists, all professional or semi-pro classical musicians. The whole event is more about the music than the formality, and enjoyment seems to be prioritised over being seen …
The Brighton College Al Ain Community Orchestra, led by Paola Conte, will be joined by the Al Ain Choral Society. The other performers include:
Natalia Nechepurenko – a skilled classical pianist from Ukraine. She has won several competitions.
Ilya Netkach – professional violinist and music teacher, again from Ukraine; he teaches at the House of Arts in Al Ain. (He also plays jazz.)
Mark Glover – one of relatively few players who use the euphonium as a solo instrument. He is another who crosses genres: he spent five years playing guitar in a heavy rock band, and he is an accomplished drummer too.
Derek Jung – a music educator now teaching in Abu Dhabi and an AAMF stalwart, back for his fourth appearance. In the past he has played solo pieces and played with (and/or directed) the Al Ain Chamber Orchestra; he now sings and plays alongside the Abu Dhabi Choral Group.
Louise Ryan – a successful concert and operatic soprano in Britain; in the UAE has performed many times with the National Symphony Orchestra and Al Khubairat Singers.
Jennifer Eastwood – Canadian soprano, a familiar name from the AAMF Garden City Classics concert last year. For this concert she will be singing “Voi Che Sapete” from The Marriage of Figaro.
Arabian Nights – classical Arabic music under the leadership of oud player Diyaa Safadi, a music teacher in Al Ain. The band has been busy since it formed in 2010, not least at AAMF – its members have participated every year, usually on the same programme as the Al Ain Chamber Orchestra.
This is free of charge, but mail email@example.com to register.
