SUMMARY:Ras Al Khaimah Art 2026 Festival 
DESCRIPTION:In the last few years the Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival has grown into a solid contributor to the UAE’s arts and culture scene\, with a community-oriented twist to the mix of exhibitions\, performances\, workshops and film screenings. There’s always a theme – this year it’s ‘Civilizations’\, a catch-all which should be able to accommodate just about any kind of culture – but the characteristic feature is the community engagement and the strong sense of RAK itself being part of the festival. \nIt has an excellent site at Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village\, which is where most of the exhibitions and events happen – exhibitions are open for the whole of the festival (16 January to 8 February)\, but performances and other one-offs occupy the three weekends. \nThis first weekend sees guided art and heritage tours\, several workshops – including calligraphy\, light art\, traditional agriculture\, and a two-day Photowalk and Film Photography masterclass – and live performances. They kick off with AlMaydee’s soulful soft rock (Friday\, 9-9.45pm) and the Saturday stage gets Luiza (jazzy pop\, great voice) followed by the AFCENT Band (that’s the official US Air Forces Central ensemble with a signature mix of pop\, rock\, and big band jazz). \nElsewhere in the village there’s Alana Hicks with a one-woman show titled Voices in the Dark (“a thoughtful exploration of identity\, culture\, and the threads that bind us: Saturday 6pm) and James Scarr with his excellent Mime Show (Sunday 6pm). \nNew for 2026 is The Hidden Table\, a curated culinary programme that expands the festival into gastronomy by positioning food as a form of cultural storytelling; the first two weekends get Chama\, an open-fire dining experience by Portuguese chef Tiago Pazzini with no fixed menu (“each evening is guided by seasonality\, elemental cooking\, and instinct\, allowing cuisine to unfold as a live\, creative expression”). The final weekend it’s Restaurant Pine\, the creation of Northumberland chefs Cal Byerley and Ian Waller to celebrate “the rhythm of the seasons [and] a modern echo of ancient land”. \nChama will cost you AED 350 but entrance to the festival and most of the other happenings are free\, including the live music. SUMMARY:Sikka Art and Design Festival
DESCRIPTION:The 14th edition of what has become one of Dubai Culture’s flagship initiatives is back in Al Shindagha Historic District\, this year with the theme ‘Imagining Dubai: Identities of the Future’. \nThe festival promises “a diverse array of artworks” in gallery and public art formats\, workshops\, panel discussions\, live performances\, food and retail markets\, “and other activities”. As usual there doesn’t seem to be any specific advance information – no website\, no overall directory/guide – but the press releases says there will be more than 250 artworks showing in 16 houses. To find out what’s out when the Instagram feed is probably your best option\, but with less than a week to go it was still full of last year’s info. \nStill\, Sikka is always worth the trip – especially as it’s free to enter.

DESCRIPTION:magpie has long been a fan of the Sharjah Light Festival\, the 14th edition of which runs 3 to 15 February. By contrast with the newer Manar Abu Dhabi and Dhai Dubai light art festivals\, SLF generally takes a more conventional approach – which typically means illuminating iconic cultural (and some natural) landmarks\, albeit with active light shows. \nThis year’s Sharjah Light Festival features light shows in 13 locations\, and there’s clearly been a deliberate effort to spread them beyond Sharjah City. Locally there are shows at Dr Sultan Al Qassimi Center near University City Hall\, Al Majaz Waterfront\, Kalba Waterfront\, the General Souq at Al Hamriyah\, Al Jada\, and the House of Wisdom. And it should be worth making the trips to Al Rafisah Dam\, Al Dhaid Fort\, Khorfakkan Waterfall\, the Hanging Gardens in Kalba\, Dibba’s AlTayari Mosque\, and Sharjah Fort in Al Hisn.  \nThere’s also the Light Village in front of the University City Hall building\, which will have around 55 F&B and retail vendors plus entertainment and activities. That stays open till 22 February. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Courtyard’s popular evening of elimination improv. Ten actors converge for a night of scenes\, songs and games based on audience suggestions. After each round you score the players on a scale of 1 to 5\, and the one with the lowest score is knocked out. Eventually only one remains\, to be crowned the Maestro. “Fast-paced\, unpredictable\, and hilarious” says the promo\, and you couldn’t argue with that. DESCRIPTION:Huang Yi was last seen in Abu Dhabi in The Arts Center’s inaugural season\, dancing with an industrial robot. This time he takes the ‘dance meets tech’ idea in new directions; in this collaboration with audiovisual pioneer Ryoichi Kurokawa\, the lines from a hundred artworks by renowned calligrapher Tong Yang-Tze are dismantled and reconstructed to explore the various textures that can be found between body\, sound\, visual\, and space. \nHuang digs into his cultural roots to find a wild language of movement\, turning dancers’ bodies into brushes that paint marks on stage. Kurokawa transforms the inkblots into luminous tracks\, echoing and merging with the unique brushstrokes of Tong\, constructing a continuous flow of paintings via holographic projection. On stage\, dancers trace ephemeral gestures that echo the movement of a calligrapher’s brush\, while Kurokawa’s responsive sound and visual environment amplifies each motion\, dissolving the boundaries between the physical and digital worlds. The result is a hypnotic performance that unfolds like a living painting\, at once precise\, fluid\, and emotionally charged. \nBill Bragin\, Executive Artistic Director at The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi\, said: “Huang Yi’s duet with the robot KUKA dazzled audiences in our inaugural season a decade ago\, so it feels especially meaningful to welcome him back as we enter our second decade. Ink shows how his work has continued to grow\, using technology in striking and unexpected ways\, while still feeling lyrical and deeply human. We are delighted to welcome him back to Abu Dhabi and to share this extraordinary Middle East premiere of a performance mixing with the ancient art of calligraphy\, and contemporary multimedia art and robotics.” \nInk is an original production of Huang Yi Studio +\, co-commissioned by the National Taichung Theater and National Theater\, Taipei in Taiwan. It is presented in Abu Dhabi with the support of Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels.

As Becca and Howie grow apart under the strain of grief: Becca’s mother badgers her about her grieving process; Becca’s younger sister Izzy announces that she is pregnant\, so there will now be a new child in the family; and Jason\, the young driver who killed their son\, continually shows up to ask forgiveness. \nBut Rabbit Hole is not just about grief—it’s about the strength of family\, the healing power of compassion\, and the possibility of finding light in unexpected places. \nDirected by Arjam Burman for the Junction’s resident company H72 Productions. She often uses paper cut silhouettes layered with detailed graphite drawings that typically adds three-dimensional depth to otherwise flat imagery. \nAccording to the gallery\, this new show is “an exhibition that explores chaos as fractal paradox; where perfect\, infinite patterns of existence\, spirituality and free will will repeat across scales\, blurring the line between divine order and self-destructive conflict …” Significantly influenced by sufi ideologies\, Huma Shoaib’s work tries to break down this chaos into simple fractal structures that speak of order\, perfection\, the divine. \nTo 5 March.
