DESCRIPTION:The final performance of this interesting collaboration between the Mumbai-based music and street theatre group Yalgaar Sanskrutik Manch and the Nalanda Arts Studio from Bangalore. Kavan is described as an ‘Ambedkarite Opera’ – Ambedkarism being the set of anti-caste ideas associated with Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar (1891-1956)\, an Indian economist\, barrister\, social reformer\, and political thinker and activist. \nThe storyline\, which is carried exclusively in poetry and song (hence the ‘opera’ tag)\, concerns a young man called Bejul and his journey to becoming a Shahir\, a politically-aware performance poet; it’s a path from acceptance of the status quo\, including compliance with the social norms like gender and caste\, to a gradual realisation that many of the constraints in his life are actually man-made and not predetermined. Although the caste system provides the framework\, the piece can be seen as more generally about deep-rooted inequalities in society – “and every society has such inequalities” as the director Abhishek Majumdar told us. \nRead our backgrounder here.

DESCRIPTION:An extended solo exhibition for the Syrian-French artist\, curated by Art Jameel’s Lucas Morin. \nSelf-portrait with a cat I don’t have is Bady Dalloul’s first institutional solo exhibition in the United Arab Emirates. Blending autobiographical anecdotes with stories of individuals he encounters\, the artworks feature fragile heroes and ordinary people navigating systems larger than themselves. Dalloul repurposes everyday materials—including books\, matchboxes\, board games and magazines—to create surprising dialogues across cultures and genres. He elevates everyday narratives into epics\, bridges high and low brow\, and importantly\, connects non-Western cultures\, at times unexpectedly\, outside of conventional delineations and Eurocentric gaze. \nSpecially made for this exhibition\, Age of Empires\, a new series of 50 works on paper\, uses onmyōdō\, a 19th-century Japanese astrology manual\, to contemplate the life and death of imperial power. On the gallery walls\, Matchboxes\, a series of dozens of minuscule drawings framed in matchboxes\, offer snapshots of everyday scenes\, news broadcasts and political developments witnessed by the artist over the years\, notably in his family’s native Syria. Inside a recreated apartment inspired by Dalloul’s live-in studio in Dubai\, multiple small works retrace the last five years of his nomadic practice.

DESCRIPTION:A solo show celebrating the work of Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim\, a massively influential figure in the development of contemporary art in the UAE. He was part of the UAE’s first generation of contemporary artists from the late 1980s\, an avant-garde scene that included Hassan Sharif\, Abdullah Al Saadi\, Hussein Sharif\, and Mohammed Kazem. \nThis exhibition should allow for an exploration of Ibrahim’s meditative\, process-driven practice. Ibrahim’s work has been inspired by a lifelong relationship with the environment of Khorfakkan\, his place of birth. This deep connection to his local environment repeats itself throughout his studio practice\, whether through his installations\, drawings or objects\, and the materials he has worked with for over three decades.

DESCRIPTION:Works resulting from a year of profound transformation initiated by the artist’s journey to Nepal\, “where inner awareness and self-observation became central to her practice”. Radchenko’s visual language combines painting\, collage\, symbolism\, and layered cultural references\, creating compositions that are bold\, ironic\, and emotionally charged. Recurring animal figures embody the Seven Deadly Sins — not as moral judgment\, but as raw human forces: instinct\, desire\, fear\, excess\, anger\, pride\, and inertia. Opposing them are the Wings\, symbols of awareness\, elevation\, and transformation.

After each round you score the players on a scale of 1 to 5\, and the one with the lowest score is knocked out. Eventually only one remains\, to be crowned the Maestro. “Fast-paced\, unpredictable\, and hilarious” says the promo\, and you couldn’t argue with that. SUMMARY:UAENO: Echoes of Time – Ibn Arabi
DESCRIPTION:The UAE National Orchestra continues its inaugural season with a concert inspired by the words of Ibn Arabi\, the Arab scholar\, Sufi mystic\, poet\, and Muslim philosopher from 12th and 13th century al-Andalus. This is the world premiere of a symphonic poem by Nadim Tarabay\, the composer who was also commissioned for the UAENO’s symphony The Beginning. \nIbn Arabi’s major teachings emphasize the concept of unity of existence (wahdat al-wujud)\, the idea that all beings are interconnected manifestations of the same divine reality\, encouraging a deep understanding of the self and God through love and spiritual discovery; Echoes of Time seeks a musical response to these ideas\, where the music becomes reflection and connection with Arabic and Western instruments plus voices “invite the audience to experience time as emotion\, where silence and melody carry meaning”.
