After each round you score the players on a scale of 1 to 5\, and the one with the lowest score is knocked out. Eventually only one remains\, to be crowned the Maestro. “Fast-paced\, unpredictable\, and hilarious” says the promo\, and you couldn’t argue with that. DESCRIPTION:Ayyam Gallery’s summer group show celebrates and questions the current siutation in Syria with works by Kais Salman\, Khaled Takreti\, Tammam Azzam\, Abdalla Al Omari\, Othman Moussa\, Safwan Dahoul\, Thaier Helal\, Elias Izoli\, Abdul-Karim Majd Al-Beik\, Mohannad Orabi\, Nihad Al-Turk\, and Yasmine Al Awa. \nAs Ayyam marks two decades of championing Syrian contemporary art\, this exhibition provides a testament to a generation that has not only survived history\, but shaped it – as the gallery says\, “For over two decades of conflict\, displacement\, and resistance\, Syrian artists have relied on their creative practices as a lifeline. Through these practices\, they have fought against erasure\, preserved memory\, and expressed truths too heavy for language alone …” The fall of the Assad regime in December has led to a new chapter: “even in this long-awaited moment\, a deeper question surfaced: was this truly an end\, or merely the next turn in a long cycle of hope and despair?” \nThis year’s Summer Collective echoes that feeling and also reflects on Ayyam’s own journey. Through their individual visions\, the artists in the ummer Collective map the emotional\, political\, and cultural aftermath of conflict\, and the fragile hope that emerges in its wake. Created in concentrated bursts within makeshift studios in Roswell\, Brooklyn\, Los Angeles\, and Dubai\, the resulting works “exude increasing complexity and intensity in both form and colour” as the gallery puts it. \nBorn in Iran in 1978\, Nima Nabavi is a self-taught artist now based between Dubai and New York. The Cuban painter embodies that vision in this exhibition\, curated by Celine Azem; “his canvases invite viewers into a dreamlike space where personal and collective histories merge … His work does not retreat from life’s struggles but reinterprets them\, transforming them into compositions where emotions\, memories\, and aspirations coexist in harmony”. \nTe exhibition introduces the latest works from Llanes’ The Poet series\, bridging ancestral echoes with contemporary realities; The Poet is an ethereal\, enigmatic figure drifting between memory and imagination\, past and present\, to become a vessel for the viewer’s own reflections. “The Poet is both wanderer and witness\, a keeper of memory embodying the ever-shifting human condition.”
