SUMMARY:The Art of Standup / Find the Funny
DESCRIPTION:Dubai comedy heavyweight Miqdaad Dohadwala (main man at Mad Cat Comedy) explores stand-up as a serious creative craft\, has some practical advice to would-be comics\, and offers thoughts about why Dubai’s comedy scene is so strong right now. This chat is followed by a practical demonstration in the form of a AED 200 comedy workshop with Miqdaad at 8.15pm. \nThese are among several events being run under the Rooted label\, a collaborative project involving five organisations who successfully applied for one of Alserkal Avenue’s free four-week community-oriented warehouse initiatives – “bringing together artists\, writers\, musicians\, makers and fashion creators to explore ideas of identity\, place\, and belonging in Dubai”. Rooted has events running to 13 June. Most are paid-for workshops\, and none the worse for that; we prefer not to list commercial workshop activities and classes\, however. The full calendar is here.
