SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Global Positioning System
DESCRIPTION:An ambitious large-scale group exhibition dedicated to mapping and navigation systems\, “telling stories of fast cars and donkeys\, spinning globes and street barricades\, cosmic highways and broken bridges … [it] delves into topographies\, transit lines and simulated landscapes to engage critically with the infrastructure of movement and navigation”. Set against real and imagined geographies and landscapes\, the exhibition asks questions about the infrastructures that enable transport and trade\, the promises of speed and progress\, the meaning of home\, and what ‘navigation’ means when the destination is not a place but a memory … It is curated by Indranjan Banerjee and Lucas Morin (both exhibition curators at the Jameel) and features 30 artists. A second ‘chapter’ of the exhibition runs at Hayy Jameel in Jeddah to 26 October featuring 22 artists – a third of whom are from the Dubai roster\, with new names making up the balance.

SUMMARY:Dubai Bibliophiles: Poetry Session – Vote for Your Favorites
DESCRIPTION:Discuss the top seven poems (from a list of 50) that have received the most votes by members. As with any such list\, it’s highly debatable – way too many US poets\, way too few from MENASA (including the UAE\, of course) but selecting the best ever is not the point … You can of course participate whether you’ve voted or not. \n

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Artists’ Rooms: Kamruzzaman Shahdin
DESCRIPTION:A monumental one-room installation that restages the Bangladeshi artist’s The River Remembers. Originally commissioned by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation and created in 2023\, this large-scale textile work has handcrafted threads mapping the colour of the water of the Teesta and the Brahmaputra\, two rivers flowing through the Bengal delta. Engraved brass disks convey the memories and migration stories of two women in the artist’s life whose own lives were strongly marked by the river.

SUMMARY:Salah Elmur
DESCRIPTION:Bringing together paintings\, archival photographs\, sketches and ephemera produced after 2018\, this exhibition promises an immersive encounter with Salah Elmur’s world – “where memory\, landscape and identity merge and ripple through time”\, exploring the artist’s shifting sense of belonging and distance from his homeland\, Sudan\, in times of exile and political rupture. \nCurated by Zain Al Saie and Qutouf Elobaid. To 14 March. \nAbove: Salah Elmur\, Fire Behind the Mountain (2025)

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCEAhmad Tallaa: The Living Archive
DESCRIPTION:Built from layers of sand collected in the UAE\, chalk powder\, pigments\, and acrylic\, the surfaces of Ahmad Tallaa’s large-scale portraits at the centre of this show are dense and almost sculptural – as the gallery puts it\, “Faces do not sit on the canvas so much as emerge from within it\, as though the act of painting were one of excavation rather than construction. Cracks\, scars\, and accumulated marks become evidence of time’s passage …”

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Vantage Point 13
DESCRIPTION:The latest edition of Sharjah Art Foundation’s open-call photography exhibition examines the evolving possibilities of documentary photography through newly commissioned works by six artists – Luisa Dörr\, Latifa AlBokhari\, Sathish Kumar\, Adam Rouhana\, Guanyu Xu and Maheder Haileselassie. \nThe principle is that photography is not simply as a tool for recording reality but can be treated as a medium through which histories and systems of representation are negotiated. So through portraiture and observational strategies\, Dörr\, AlBokhari and Kumar probe the nuances of lived experience\, tracing intimate connections between land and belonging via long-term collaborations with individuals\, families and communities; Rouhana\, Guanyu Xu and Haileselassie explore themes of absence and rupture\, photography as a means of grappling with questions of visibility and with histories interrupted by conflict or erasure. As SAF puts it: “The works position documentary photography as a field in transformation – one defined not by static truths\, but by continual discernment”.
