DESCRIPTION:“A playful\, interactive experience where style meets reflection\, connection\, and a whole lot of fun …” It all hangs on the Shift Happens cards\, which encourage you to explore your wardrobe and fashion preferences with dares\, truths\, and prompts that spark conversation and creativity. “Come as you are\, play a little\, reflect a little\, and leave with a shift in style\, mindset\, or both. Because here\, we don’t just talk about fashion … we play with it.” \nThis is one of several events being run under the Rooted label\, a collaborative project involving five organisations who successfully applied for one of Alserkal Avenue’s free four-week community-oriented warehouse initiatives – “bringing together artists\, writers\, musicians\, makers and fashion creators to explore ideas of identity\, place\, and belonging in Dubai”. Rooted has events running to 13 June. Most are paid-for workshops\, and none the worse for that; we prefer not to list commercial workshop activities and classes\, however. The full calendar is here.

SUMMARY:Postcard Poems with Balqees Alhawamdeh
DESCRIPTION:Writer and poet Balqees Alhawamdeh invites participants to explore poetry in an approachable and creative way by crafting a short poem as a visual composition using colour\, collage\, and form. It starts with a line from a poem or a personal memory as a prompt; participants will then move into a guided writing exercise and free-writing session\, subsequently translating the poem into postcard form that transform words into a visual object. Open to ages 18+\, no prior experience required\, and materials will be provided. Participants will leave with their own postcard poem and a 421 Artist-Kit curated by Balqees\, including her Poetry Guide

DESCRIPTION:“This is not a talk\, and it is not spectacle for spectacle’s sake. It is an intervention (or perhaps\, a contemplation) inviting audiences to negotiate artists and their practices more critically and dynamically\, to engage with them\, and to enter into dialogue with them” (the nearest event category we have is ‘workshop’).  Former 421 residents UT-R Studio\, Tamara Barrage\, and Moza Al Mazrouei guide participants on a journey through 421’s campus\, pausing at junctures for “interventions that blur the lines between spectator and spectacle\, performer and viewer … These encounters invite us to reconsider how we engage with art\, space\, and one another”. The evening includes a “light dinner”.
