SUMMARY:My Father's Shadow: dir Akinola Davies Jr (2025)
DESCRIPTION:Another fine Cinema Space choice: winner of a Caméra d’Or Special Mention at Cannes and the 2026 BAFTA award for Outstanding Debut Feature\, My Father’s Shadow is a stunning debut for the British-Nigerian filmmaker Akinola Davis Jr. Set in 1993 Lagos\, a city anxiously awaiting the outcome of its first presidential election after a decade of military rule\, it’s a lyrical\, emotionally resonant story of two brothers reconnecting with their estranged father over a single\, transformative day. \nCo-written by the director and his brother Wale Davies\, this intimate\, tender portrait is inspired by their personal memories\, interweaving the profound depths of what families leave unspoken with a coming-of-age story given a overlay of political reckoning. \n
