SUMMARY:Recreating Gesture: Crafting a Gold Necklace from The Iron Age
DESCRIPTION:Following showings in Paris\, Lyon\, Seoul and Shanghai\, this exhibition – “a strategic research project for L’ÉCOLE\, at the crossroads of archaeology and the history of techniques\, and goldsmithing craftsmanship” – demonstrates the skills and techniques in reproducing a Celtic torque\, a neck collar discovered in 1843 in Montans (France) and dating from the Second Iron Age (450–25 BC). The exhibition project offers insights into the complexities behind the craftsmanship of this remarkable piece. \nAn Open House themed around the exhibition on 7 November invites the community to discover L’ÉCOLE through course demonstrations\, kids’ workshops\, guided tours and other activities. \nTo 24 April. \n  \n

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Bénédicte Gimonnet: What We Carry Becomes the Terrain
DESCRIPTION:Aisha Alabbar Gallery’s newly renovated space reopens with a solo exhibition by the UAE-based French artist that features paintings\, screen prints\, drawings and textile works. The theme is a pivotal journey to Peru and a renewed engagement with the roots that have long informed her practice; the rainforest\, in particular\, is treated as “a site of reckoning\, where recollection\, imagination and lived experience converge … Windows\, façades and thresholds surface within dense vegetation\, setting the human impulse to define and contain against everything around it that refuses a fixed boundary”. \nThe exhibition also introduces the Gran Eco series\, with tall vertical works isolating personally significant sites from countries where Gimonnet has lived (“an echo implies distance\, delay\, memory and transformation\, a place returning altered …”

SUMMARY:Artist’s Garden: Amphibious Timelapse by the Rice Brewing Sisters Club
DESCRIPTION:Amphibious Timelapse by South Korean collective the Rice Brewing Sisters Club (RBSC) is the 2026-2028 Artist’s Garden commission at the Jameel – the Artist’s Garden being a space for artists to create\, cultivate and experiment with the conceptual limits of the ‘garden’ through a research-led commissioning process that responds to local and regional environmental concerns. \nRBSC is an artist collective established in 2018 exploring the notion of ‘social fermentation’ as an artistic form and work across visual art\, performance\, writing\, oral history\, ecological thinking and ‘auntie’s wisdom’. Amphibious Timelapse traces a continuum between land and sea; its guiding question “how are amphibious beings interconnected?” directs attention to the plants at the soil–sea interface. Plants such as mangroves and other halophytes resist any firm division between earth and sea; sabkhas\, salt marshes and tidal flats are understood not as boundaries but as continuums — the shared medium through which the meeting of soil and sea is sustained\, negotiated and made legible. \nStructured over two years\, Amphibious Timelapse unfolds across phases\, functioning as a garden\, a lab and a kitchen that is home to local species of halophytes. These plants embody different tactics of living with\, rather than against\, arid saline soil and salty coastal wetlands that define UAE’s distinctive ecology. Through them\, RBSC traces amphibious adaptability\, resilience and kinship with their salty landscapes. \nCurated by Daniya Jawwad and Indranjan Banerjee. \nTo 27 September 2028.

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Bashar Khalaf: The Field of Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Two series of works\, Junk Garden and Protective Shield\, from the Ramallah-born artist. “The Field of Dreams is an exploration of formations of ‘steel’ in the public space from the perspective of the relationship between the self\, the object\, and the other” says the gallery. “It can be viewed as an interactive space with the fragile reality in which humanity lives.” \nKhalaf’s dreaming energy gives steel junk – bulldozers\, vehicles\, surveillance cameras – an chance for self-reinvention; it confronts the machine with its own existence\, giving it a tragic form and allowing it reposition itself over time. The garbage bins in Protective Shield were used during the First Intifada to block street and provide shelter from bullets ; in contrast\, the colonial system used steel barrels filled with cement to seal off the entrances to villages and camps.

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Rana Begum: Taking Form
DESCRIPTION:Rana Begum brings her textile works to The Third Line for the first time. Her fifth solo exhibition at the gallery features a new body of large-scale wool tapestries presented alongside works on linen\, paper and MDF\, all reflecting the artist’s longstanding engagement with abstraction and minimalism and continuing her exploration of light through new materials and forms. Her characteristic engagement with geometry runs throughout\, with forms suggesting patterns that extend beyond their physical boundaries. \n

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Manish Nai: In Search of Material Within Material
DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibition by the Mumbai-based artist; much of his work comes from what he has seen and handled there. SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Karima Al Shomely: Between a Fold and a Memory
DESCRIPTION:Karima Al Shomely’s work draws from the clothing\, textiles and adornments of Emirati women. The burqa is a recurring subject\, appearing in works that look at how it was made\, worn and passed down through generations; Al Shomely also works with traditional Emirati fabrics\, including Bou Tira\, Bu Glaym and Bu Teelah\, enlarging their patterns and remaking them in metal. SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Katia Kameli: The Canticle of the Birds
DESCRIPTION:A solo presentation by the French-Algerian artist and filmmaker that reinterprets The Conference of the Birds\,a 12th-century epic poem by Farid ud-Din Attar\, in which a flock of birds search for a mighty ruler and ultimately find their strength within themselves. \nIn Kameli’s video Le Cantique des oiseaux (2022) actresses process while playing bird-shaped ceramic instruments\, an eerie procession that stands in sharp contrast to the urban environment of Paris. A follow-up film\, Le Cantique des oiseaux\, variation (2022)\, was staged in a seaside garden on the French Riviera; here\, the physical challenge of dancing while playing fragile ceramic instruments creates a visible tension between the performers’ bodies and the delicate artwork. The earthenware instruments are bird-shaped ocarinas\, created by Kameli with ceramicist Marie Picard; to bring these sculptural birds to life\, Kameli worked with composer Aurélie Sfez and choreographer Youness Anzane.

SUMMARY:Afrah Shafiq: Nobody Knows For Certain
DESCRIPTION:Afrah Shafiq’s Nobody Knows for Certain is a multimedia game that draws on the illustrated children’s books that were distributed widely in India by the USSR\, highlighting a little-known chapter of Cold War-era cultural exchange. These richly illustrated Soviet fairytales and folk stories shaped many childhood memories and are now the subject of a thriving subculture of collectors across South Asia. \nNobody Knows For Certain is an anthology of stories developed through a field research fellowship with the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art\, Moscow\, alongside an archive Shafiq has built of Soviet children’s books across Indian languages and oral testimonies gathered during her research. Sitting between interactive fiction\, documentary and point-and-click adventure games\, the work invites players to collect books virtually\, find portals from one tale to the next and move through archival findings and historical backdrops that trace how two seemingly disparate lands were closely tied to one another. \nTo 25 April.

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Maggie Otieno: Sojourner – The Difference Is the Same
DESCRIPTION:New works by the Kenyan artist Maggie Otieno\, her first solo show here since the gallery began representing her in 2024 . Otieno’s practice centres on the transformation of reclaimed and distressed materials.; working across wood\, metal\, and mixed media\, her semi -abstract forms explore layered narratives of history\, memory\, human interaction\, and environmental survival. Her works function as vessels of remembrance and renewal\, grounding social and historical reflection in physical form. \nFeatured in the exhibition are new works based around railway sleepers\, symbols of East Africa’s colonial past. More than 150 years old\, these timbers travelled from India to Kenya for railway lines\, carrying with them the stories of travellers\, labourers\, and communities. Also included are works created during a residency at El Anatsui Studio in Ghana last summer. Sculptures made from fragments of wooden canoes bear traces of memory and passage; some are hinged to resemble books\, evoking the turning of a page and the opening of a new chapter.

SUMMARY:Artist's Room: Bani Abidi
DESCRIPTION:Bani Abidi’s Artist’s Room displays a single body of work\, Trembling hands (2024) – a series of portraits of artists\, journalists\, politicians\, lawyers\, doctors and civil society leaders who publicly spoke out against the genocide of Palestinians\, often using public platforms that exposed them to backlash\, censorship or repression. Drawn in 2024\, the portraits primarily refer to speeches made in late 2023 and early 2024 during the most brutal and deadly period of the Israeli onslaught on Gaza\, also characterised by widespread international inaction. Some of the speakers depicted by Abidi are Palestinian; others spoke in solidarity. \nTo 25 April.

SUMMARY:Reynier Llanes: Elsewhere\, Within
DESCRIPTION:Reynier Llanes’ second solo exhibition at Firetti Contemporary includes works from The Tourist and The Poet series plus the debut of Bodega\, a new series in which the human figure gives way to transparent vessels overflowing with flowers. “Moving between the real and imagined\, the exhibition explores how places\, people and experiences shape who we become and what we carry forward …  Across Elsewhere\, Within\, boundaries between figure and landscape\, past and present\, and the lived and imagined remain fluid. The worlds we pass through never entirely disappear; something of them remains within us”. \nTo 16 January.

SUMMARY:The Days Go On: 20 Years of Ayyam Gallery
DESCRIPTION:This is sure to be one of the shows of the year\, and not just because of its scale. Ayyam’s 20th-anniversary exhibition seeks to honour a journey defined by continuity\, resilience\, and artistic exchange\, says the gallery; and\, “much like the gallery’s programming\, the exhibition is conceived as a visceral experience\, a story that has withstood the test of time …” \nAlongside co-curators Safwan Dahoul and Ali Kaaf\, director Maya Samawi aims to bring together works by all the artists who have shaped Ayyam over the past twenty years. Each of the curators represents a continuous artistic timeline in which the past and present remain undeniably connected; “Ayyam’s twenty years are not merely a measure of time. They constitute a living history – one that continues to unfold”. \nThe exhibition will feature works by an extraordinary roster of contemporary Middle Eastern artists: \n2006:\nYoussef Abdelke\nSafwan Dahoul\nMounzer Kamnakache\nFadi Yazigi\nAbdullah Murad \n2007:\nAssad Arabi\nNassouh Zaghlouleh\nMouneer Al Shaarani\nWalid El Masri\nKais Salman\nNihad Al Turk\nMouteea Murad\nMohannad Orabi\nOmran Younes\nAbdul Karim Majdal Al-Beik \n2008:\nAmmar Al-Beik\nAsma Fayoumi\nSamia Halaby\nTammam Azzam\nLeila Nseir\nMoustafa Fathi \n2009:\nOthman Moussa\nOussama Diab\nKhaled Takreti\nThaier Helal\nNadim Karam \n2010:\nRima Salamoun\nElias Izoli \n2011:\nSadik Kwaish Alfraji\nMohamad Badr\nLara Zankoul\nLara Attallah \n2012:\nAmmar Abd Rabbo \n2013:\nFarzad Kohan Mousawi\nAfshin Pirhashemi\nFaisal Samra\nAbdulnasser Gharem \n2014:\nFathallah Zamroud\nShurooq Amin\nMohammad Bozorgi \n2015:\nSama Alshaibi\nNoor Bahjat \n2016:\nRula Halawani\nKhaled Jarrar\nRashed Al Shashai \n2017:\nRoshanak Aminelahi\nAbdalla Al Omari \n2018:\nRashid Al Khalifa \n2022:\nMuatasim Alkubaisy \n2024:\nKhaled Akil \n2025:\nAthar Jaber\nAli Kaaf \nTo 1 January.

SUMMARY:Faris Alshafar: Everybody Changes Underwater
DESCRIPTION:The first solo exhibition by Emirati artist Faris Alshafar features new oil paintings that mark his move from monochrome into colour. Says the gallery: “The works explore how we alter our appearance and behaviour in response to desire and expectation\, whether internally cultivated or externally imposed. Palettes thaw from glacial to nautical to terrestrial before vaporising into placeless places. Forms are hung like marionettes across load-bearing negative spaces\, held or erased by forces unseen\, while glyph-like gestures evocative of shells\, clock hands and candles recur from one painting to the next …Drawing on music\, video games and everyday moments in which people change how they act and look\, the paintings unfold like episodes\, each with its own pictorial logic”. \nImage: Faris Alshafar\, Chocolate (2026\, detail)

SUMMARY:Yaw Owusu: Where the Tide Flows\, and the Dunes Gather
DESCRIPTION:The Ghanain artist’s second solo exhibition with Efie Gallery extends Owusu’s longstanding exploration of value\, currency\, and the social structures through which worth is assigned and perceived; it features textured canvases\, mixed media sculptures\, and – for the first time in his practice – works on paper. \nWorking with materials already embedded within systems of exchange\, Owusu considers currency as more than an economic instrument\, approaching it as a social language through which hierarchies of worth are constructed and maintained. Through accumulation\, repetition\, and transformation\, materials assigned little individual value take on an imposing presence\, challenging the assumptions that determine what is considered precious. \nTo 10 January.

SUMMARY:Malik Thomas Jalil Kydd: As I Bask in Your Light\, it Seeps to My Soul
DESCRIPTION:Malik Thomas Jalil Kydd’s second solo exhibition marks a significant evolution in his practice\, says the gallery – “one in which desire and divinity are intertwined and rendered in quiet persistence”. Previous works often situated their subjects within expansive landscapes\, imbued with a mythological presence; this time the figures shift throughout domestic interiors and intimate encounters\, all the while becoming increasingly human; “they are no longer vessels for projection alone but subjects encountered in their own right”. \nTo 5 January. \nImage: Malik Thomas Jalil Kydd\, Bather basked in moonlight (2026\, detail)

SUMMARY:The Territory Dreams Back
DESCRIPTION:A group exhibition of newly commissioned and recent works by Rajni Perera\, Sancintya Mohini Simpson\, Soma Surovi Jannat\, Karan Shrestha and Rain Wu\, five artists who offer different perspectives on our relationship with place. \nSays the gallery: “The Territory Dreams Back moves between mythology and memory\, migration and ecology\, political power and the systems through which places are mapped and organised. At its heart is the idea that places are shaped by more than their physical geography. Land and water hold histories and memories; stories and beliefs influence how landscapes are understood; political decisions affect who can access and control land; and maps and infrastructure can change the environments they set out to describe …” \nTo 15 January. \nRight: Rajni Perera\, Dark Matter (2025)

SUMMARY:Marilina Marchica and Salmah Almansoori: Traces of Home
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition that brings together works by the Italian artist Marilina Marchica and Emirati artist Salmah Almansoori that are rooted in the landscapes respectively of Sicily and Ghayathi. \nMarchica traces the imprints of abandoned buildings and domestic spaces through drawing\, collage and painting\, using materials such as earth\, charcoal and mineral pigments. Almansoori draws on her personal archive of Ghayathi\, transforming photographs and collected materials\, including palm fibres and desert grasses\, into new works. Between them they explore how art can preserve the memories and histories held by a place\, and how a sense of belonging endures through change … \nTo 29 November. The exhibition is curated by Maria Firetti and organised by Firetti Contemporary in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi. \nImage: Salmah Almansoori\, Witnessing the Fragments (2026\, section)

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Wafa Al Falahi: Feathers in the Reeds\, Milk in the Mud
DESCRIPTION:The Emirati artist’s first solo exhibition features an imaginary bestiary on paintings\, works on paper and ceramic sculptures. Al Falahi’s creatures each carry a feeling\, a memory or a premonition\, says the gallery: “Pieced together from what has stayed with the artist after moving through a place\, recomposed through memory\, childhood and fantasy\, they emerge from papier mâché\, pastel and pigment\, raised in thick relief on the canvas\, before stepping\, in clay\, into the space of the gallery … Al Falahi’s fables carry no fixed morals: beauty sits alongside violence\, innocence alongside desire\, and their meaning stays open\, as it does in a dream”.

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Shamin Sharum: Provisional Sanctuaries
DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibition by Malaysian artist and designer that reflects on the quiet\, temporary musollas that pop up in the UAE’s warehouses\, shopfronts\, and back rooms\, modest prayer spaces that are shaped by necessity rather than formal design. Through paintings\, drawings\, and maquettes\, Sharum examines how fleeting environments can create belonging\, stillness\, and connection among strangers joined by faith in the city. As he says\, “Relocating to Dubai made me feel like an outsider\, but discovering a small cabin-like musolla tucked within a transient site during my early days provided an unexpected sense of familiarity\, softening my feelings of displacement”. \nBy lifting these spaces out of their functional settings\, says the gallery\, “Sharum invites viewers to look closely at details that are often overlooked. His works isolate\, flatten\, and reconstruct fragments of these environments\, allowing the audience to reconsider how sacredness can emerge through practice\, memory\, and human presence rather than architecture alone …”

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Vantage Point 13
DESCRIPTION:The latest edition of Sharjah Art Foundation’s open-call photography exhibition examines the evolving possibilities of documentary photography through newly commissioned works by six artists – Luisa Dörr\, Latifa AlBokhari\, Sathish Kumar\, Adam Rouhana\, Guanyu Xu and Maheder Haileselassie. \nThe principle is that photography is not simply as a tool for recording reality but can be treated as a medium through which histories and systems of representation are negotiated. So through portraiture and observational strategies\, Dörr\, AlBokhari and Kumar probe the nuances of lived experience\, tracing intimate connections between land and belonging via long-term collaborations with individuals\, families and communities; Rouhana\, Guanyu Xu and Haileselassie explore themes of absence and rupture\, photography as a means of grappling with questions of visibility and with histories interrupted by conflict or erasure. As SAF puts it: “The works position documentary photography as a field in transformation – one defined not by static truths\, but by continual discernment”.
