SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY In Abstracto\, In Concreto: On Memory and Presence
DESCRIPTION:A summer-long group show for Luke Agada\, Tunji Adeniyi-Jones\, Ludovic Nkoth\, and Naila Opiangah\, curated by Brice Arsène Yonkeu – whose curatorial statement defines the show as “an encounter with works on paper and paintings that move between visibility and erasure\, between the surfaces of lived experience and the abstractions of memory”. It goes on: “the exhibition is less concerned with depicting bodies in their recognisable form than with asking how the body … becomes a vessel for history\, inheritance\, and imagination”; and “rather than presenting a singular mode of figuration or abstraction\, the exhibition unfolds as a spectrum of strategies. Within this spectrum\, three interwoven threads emerge: Memory and Inheritance\, where surfaces register the weight of what is passed down and endured; Myth and Imagination\, where hybrid or surreal forms generate new lineages; and Presence and Care\, where the body is both affirmed and protected as a site of tenderness and resilience.”

SUMMARY:Ahmad Tallaa: The Living Archive
DESCRIPTION:Built from layers of sand collected in the UAE\, chalk powder\, pigments\, and acrylic\, the surfaces of Ahmad Tallaa’s large-scale portraits at the centre of this show are dense and almost sculptural – as the gallery puts it\, “Faces do not sit on the canvas so much as emerge from within it\, as though the act of painting were one of excavation rather than construction. Cracks\, scars\, and accumulated marks become evidence of time’s passage …” \nTo 11 November. \nRight: Ahmad Tallaa\, Untitled (2026)

SUMMARY:Mohamed Monaiseer: 85 Seconds To Midnight
DESCRIPTION:Monaiseer’s solo show examines history through cycles\, repetition and flows\, while testing the unstable boundary between imagination and reality. The title references the current status of the Doomsday Clock and its measurement of humanity’s proximity to catastrophe; notions of war\, occupation and imperial power have long animated his practice\, and here he considers how they recur across contexts and generations\, altering borders\, enemies and technologies while preserving familiar structures of domination. \nThe exhibition comprises drawings\, paintings\, sculptures and textile works\, as well as a video installation. Recurring motifs in these works are absorbed from literary fiction\, popular storytelling and contemporary media. And dark humour runs through them; for Monaiseer it is a means of examining the performance of power and the fantasies through which conflict can be romanticised\, rehearsed and projected. \nElsewhere\, pixelated figures and fragmented grids evoke the digital mediation of contemporary warfare and our era of misinformation\, in which information is increasingly manipulated and corrupted online. Monaiseer has previously engaged with the historical construction of conflict; in these works he considers how conflict reaches us through technology\, through compressed images\, screens\, news feeds and endlessly circulating footage\, producing realities that are experienced at a distance and often manipulated. \nTo 1 October.

SUMMARY:Hisham Sharif: Allusive Veil
DESCRIPTION:Sharif’s first solo exhibition in the UAE presents an autobiographical and very personal series of works about the struggles of private and artist life in a closed society – “a vulnerable\, nuanced presentation of life”. The Bahraini artist uses colour to convey privacy and intimacy\, “expressive hues that meld harsh truths with illusions of what could be … Sharif’s approach ensures that his depiction of these taboos is conveyed through humble depictions that preserve a certain Oriental sensibility\, avoiding the shock value or censorship they might otherwise provoke. The scenes are all about ambiance\, a haze of what was\, what is\, and what could be”. \nTo 30 October. \nRight: Hisham Sharif\, Behind the Mirror (2025)

SUMMARY:Rana Begum: Taking Form
DESCRIPTION:Rana Begum brings her textile works to The Third Line for the first time. Her fifth solo exhibition at the gallery features a new body of large-scale wool tapestries presented alongside works on linen\, paper and MDF\, all reflecting the artist’s longstanding engagement with abstraction and minimalism and continuing her exploration of light through new materials and forms. Her characteristic engagement with geometry runs throughout\, with forms suggesting patterns that extend beyond their physical boundaries. \nSuspended from the ceiling in Gallery 1\, Begum’s nearly 5m-tall tapestries should transform the space into a vast\, immersive field of cascading colour. The tapestries are feature coloured triangles\, woven together using the ridging technique that results in a dual pattern revealed only as the viewer moves around them. \nGallery 2 will have a series of large-scale linen paintings. The natural\, unprocessed tone and texture of the linen influence the colour as it is absorbed into the weave\, creating a sense of rawness and an organic quality across the surface. Alongside the linens\, a set of wooden panel paintings punctuate the space with playful accents through their smaller scale and subtle shifts in colour. \nTo 10 November. \nRight: Rana Begum\, No. 1635 (2026). SUMMARY:Maggie Otieno: Sojourner – The Difference Is the Same
DESCRIPTION:New works by the Kenyan artist Maggie Otieno\, her first solo show here since the gallery began representing her in 2024 . Otieno’s practice centres on the transformation of reclaimed and distressed materials.; working across wood\, metal\, and mixed media\, her semi -abstract forms explore layered narratives of history\, memory\, human interaction\, and environmental survival. Her works function as vessels of remembrance and renewal\, grounding social and historical reflection in physical form. \nFeatured in the exhibition are new works based around railway sleepers\, symbols of East Africa’s colonial past. More than 150 years old\, these timbers travelled from India to Kenya for railway lines\, carrying with them the stories of travellers\, labourers\, and communities. Also included are works created during a residency at El Anatsui Studio in Ghana last summer. Sculptures made from fragments of wooden canoes bear traces of memory and passage; some are hinged to resemble books\, evoking the turning of a page and the opening of a new chapter. \nTo 13 November.

SUMMARY:Nada Elkalaawy: The Butterfly’s Burden
DESCRIPTION:Borrowed from the poetry of Mahmoud Darwish\, the title of this exhibition by by London-based artist Nada Elkalaawy “speaks to the tension between sensitivity\, beauty\, and emotional weight”\, as the gallery has it. “Across a body of paintings developed through layered processes of accumulation and erasure\, Elkalaawy explores memory\, loss\, regeneration\, and the passage of time; ephemeral forms including flowers\, butterflies\, domestic vessels\, family photographs\, and ghostly figures hold traces of shared human experience\, drifting between past and present\, presence and absence.” \nElkalaawy’s practice is based in the relationship between memory\, representation\, and materiality. Drawing from a personal archive of photographs accumulated over many years\, she constructs compositions “that blur the boundaries between the lived\, the remembered\, and the imagined … Through processes of collage\, reworking\, and painterly methods\, these fragments are displaced from their original contexts and absorbed into new configurations”. \nRight: Nada Elkalaawy\, A Soft Burning (2026)

SUMMARY:Bénédicte Gimonnet: What We Carry Becomes the Terrain
DESCRIPTION:Aisha Alabbar Gallery’s newly renovated space reopens with a solo exhibition by the UAE-based French artist that features paintings\, screen prints\, drawings and textile works. The theme is a pivotal journey to Peru and a renewed engagement with the roots that have long informed her practice; the rainforest\, in particular\, is treated as “a site of reckoning\, where recollection\, imagination and lived experience converge … Windows\, façades and thresholds surface within dense vegetation\, setting the human impulse to define and contain against everything around it that refuses a fixed boundary”. \nThe exhibition also introduces the Gran Eco series\, with tall vertical works isolating personally significant sites from countries where Gimonnet has lived (“an echo implies distance\, delay\, memory and transformation\, a place returning altered …” \nTo 7 November 2026 \nRight: Bénédicte Gimonnet\, Grand Echo Rouge (2026)

SUMMARY:Private World
DESCRIPTION:A group show for Lulua Alyahya\, Rami Farook\, Sohrab Hura\, and Khaled Jarada that promises to take the viewer into “intimate\, elusive worlds … Modest in scale\, [the works] invite a form of looking that is closer and more inward\, creating encounters that feel private rather than public”. The gallery goes on: “Many of the works evoke states of solitude\, seclusion and inward attention. They seem to exist apart from the demands of the outside world\, creating spaces for reflection\, imagination and feeling. Across the exhibition\, intimacy takes different forms: through personal observation\, fragments and fleeting moments\, relationships and lived experience\, or through atmospheric and psychologically charged spaces …” \nTo 24 October. \nRight: Khaled Jarada\, The Remains Gesture (2026)

SUMMARY:Alaa Itani: A Momentum for the Horizon
DESCRIPTION:A visual meditation on the horizon as both boundary and promise\, a visible line that remains perpetually distant. Alaa Itani’s solo show brings together reverse glass paintings of horizons\, blurred landscapes\, and moving cloud formations; he explores landscape as acts of temporal displacement\, a process informed in part by his work as a researcher and archivist through which he has closely encountered the work of Arab modernist painters – especially the Lebanese artist Rafic Charaf (1932-2003). \nTo 4 November. \nRight: Alaa Itani\, A Momentum for the Horizon (2023)

SUMMARY:Sara Masinaei: Boundaries and Breaches
DESCRIPTION:Sara Masinaei’s solo show explores how urban spaces shape memory\, movement and lived experience: “through walking\, collecting found objects and recording traces of overlooked surfaces\, she treats the city’s ground as an active part of how we experience and navigate our surroundings”\, says the gallery. Her works include monoprints created by pressing canvas directly on to urban surfaces\, plus sculptural pieces that explore the tension between order and disruption. \nThis work results from Dom Arts’ Studio Support Programme\, introduced to gave artists space and time to develop their practices without requiring them to produce new work or meet predetermined outcomes. \nTo 11 October.

SUMMARY:Tirdad Hashemi and Soufia Erfanian: I Bloom Where You Hold Me
DESCRIPTION:Collaborative works from Tirdad Hashemi and Soufia Erfanian’s ongoing Flower series\, unfolding across gallery walls covered with hand-drawn graffiti; rooted in the artists’ shared and individual experiences\, the works consider what it means to care for\, sustain and grow alongside one another. For Hashemi and Erfanian\, tending to plants\, relationships and artistic practice all share a common faith in growth. And even amid destruction\, flowers return and spring cannot be stopped:the act of tending becomes a method of resistance. \nPrimarily oil pastel on paper\, the drawings use a rough and immediate visual language. Flowers are built from loose\, gestural marks; colours bleed as figurative scenes appear almost like small windows embedded within wild fields. The process is similarly intertwined. Hashemi and Erfanian move freely across the same surface; one may begin a work and the other finish. At other times\, their marks overlap as they work simultaneously. \nTo 4 November. \nRight: Tirdad Hashemi and Soufia Erfanian\, Without undressing her\, I watched her unfold\, soft as a bloom becoming itself (2024)Without undressing her\, I watched her unfold\, soft as a bloom becoming itself (2024)

SUMMARY:Katia Kameli: The Canticle of the Birds
DESCRIPTION:A solo presentation by the French-Algerian artist and filmmaker that reinterprets The Conference of the Birds\,a 12th-century epic poem by Farid ud-Din Attar\, in which a flock of birds search for a mighty ruler and ultimately find their strength within themselves. \nIn Kameli’s video Le Cantique des oiseaux (2022) actresses process while playing bird-shaped ceramic instruments\, an eerie procession that stands in sharp contrast to the urban environment of Paris. A follow-up film\, Le Cantique des oiseaux\, variation (2022)\, was staged in a seaside garden on the French Riviera; here\, the physical challenge of dancing while playing fragile ceramic instruments creates a visible tension between the performers’ bodies and the delicate artwork. The earthenware instruments are bird-shaped ocarinas\, created by Kameli with ceramicist Marie Picard; to bring these sculptural birds to life\, Kameli worked with composer Aurélie Sfez and choreographer Youness Anzane. \nTo 11 November.

SUMMARY:Sharmila Samant: Loca-Cola
DESCRIPTION:Coke bottles seem identical\, but differ subtly from one country to another. These variations in taste and appearance highlight the simulacral nature of the Coca-Cola bottle – a semblance of an imagined universal ideal. The incursion of multinational brands into local markets reflects a form of neocolonisation; but despite limited technical facilities and economic constraints\, local recycling practices thrive out of necessity; local vendors\, often resourceful and inventive\, repurpose discarded branded bottles to package their own beverages. \nSharmila Samant began the Loca-Cola project in 2000; he collects glass Coca-Cola bottles from various countries and juxtaposes them with distinctly local flavours to explore the polemics of ‘local’ and ‘global’: “Is the ‘local’ inherently oppositional to the ‘global’\, or is it an intrinsic part of it?

SUMMARY:Eman Al Hashemi: The Horizon We Inherit
DESCRIPTION:Al Hashemi’s practice examines what it means to remain human within increasingly automated systems of production and consumption – especiallyy seen through urban life in the Emirates. Al Hashemi works across ceramics\, printmaking and painting\, “investigating the systems through which contemporary experience is organized: the routes that structure daily movement\, the artificial illuminations that shape public space\, and the habitual routines through which urban environments are encountered and internalised … Central to this inquiry is the sun\, which recurs throughout the exhibition as both a defining condition of life in the UAE and a means of thinking through the relationship between body\, landscape\, and the built environment”. \nRight: Eman Al Hashemi\, Shams I\, Shams II\, Shams III (2026)

SUMMARY:Bernar Venet: Sculptures\, Furniture and Works on Paper
DESCRIPTION:A survey of works by the French artist\, “one of the most restless practitioners of his generation” as the gallery has it. Since the early 1960s Venet unusually broad range of media has included tar poured on to canvas and cardboard\, a heap of industrial coal claimed as sculpture\, paintings and drawings built from mathematical equations and scientific diagrams\, sound recordings\, photography\, performance\, poetry and stage design – and\, from the 1980s onward\, the Corten steel Arcs\, Angles and Indeterminate Lines for which he is now best known. This exhibition includes examples of three of those: sculptures in steel are shown alongside Venet’s furniture\, which translates the geometry of the sculptures into functional form\, and a group of works on paper that trace the conceptual logic running beneath it all. \nTo 31 October.

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Mohamed Monaiseer: 85 Seconds To Midnight
