SUMMARY:Salma Al Marri: Résonances
DESCRIPTION:The paintings of the Emirati artist “unfold as fragments of a personal and collective mythology\,” says the gallery. “Navigating the space between memory and presence\, her visual language evokes the resonance of the self as both a persistent echo and a profound reappearance …” Everyday scenes are transformed into chapters of a living historiography\, where the painting functions both as a wall of remembrance and a tableau of the world’s stage – “a realm of birth\, rebirth\, disappearance\, and abiding presence”. \n

SUMMARY:Michiko Tsuda and ::vtol::
DESCRIPTION:Dom Art Projects opens its new exhibition space and residency studios in Al Khayat Avenue with an inaugural exhibition that takes inspiration from the concept of time (and also plays on the meaning of ‘dom’ in Arabic: it can translate as ‘always). It features Japanese artist Michiko Tsuda and Russian artist ::vtol:: (Dmitry Morozov)\, both exhibiting in Dubai for the first time. \nTsuda is known for immersive installations exploring perception and space; occupying the main exhibition hall is an installation titled ‘You Would Come Back There to See Me Again the Following Day’ (above)\, a work which (in the words of the gallery) “explores our perception of time in relation to the evolution of new media\, their potential\, and the representation of the human being within them … It reflects the idea that our presence in time is multiplied\, refracted\, and never singular”. \nAlso showcased is ‘Takir’\, a “science art object” by ::vtol::. He works with sound\, robotics\, and emergent systems; this piece references the drying up of the Aral Sea\, looping endlessly\, accompanied by documentation\, research materials\, and reflections on the geography of Central Asia. “The disappearance of the sea is both a story of the Earth’s fate and a reminder of the consequences of imperial ambition and human exploitation — as well as an invitation to reflect on time in a geological dimension.” \nVisitors can also experience live performances\, including sound artist Peter Aidu’s interpretation of Steve Reich’s masterpiece “Piano Phase.” In Reich’s composition\, two identical musical patterns gradually shift out of sync\, creating a hypnotic field of rhythm and resonance; Aiduperforms it simultaneously on two pianos\, manually achieving the phasing effect through his own coordination. \nAlso taking place is Caryatid\, a performance by Elena Kovylina that embodies the mythic female figure from classical architecture who bears the weight of the structure upon her shoulders. The artist physically supports a heavy wooden model of a traditional reed house\, evoking the essential yet often invisible role of women as the foundation of home\, society\, and culture. \nOn the opening weekend there will be talks by the artists and a chance to see the studios\, which will be home to artists-in-residence. The schedule: \n28 November \n3pm – 4.30pm Guided tours of the exhibitions\n4.30 – 6pm Artist talk with Peter Aidu discussing how he reimagines music. Free\, but preregister here \n29 November \n3pm – 4pm Artist talk with Dmitry Morozov aka ::VTOL:: on science and robotics in contemporary art. Moderated by Alisa Bagdonaite\, Dom Art Projects Chief Curator. Free\, but preregister here\n4.30 – 6pm Artist talk with Michiko Tsuda\, whose practice explores how visual media mediates our understanding of time and presence\, will present her work and her career journey. SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Tim Kent: Horsepower
DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibition by Brooklyn-based artist Tim Kent that examines the historical and cultural significance of the horse. Working across large-scale painted interiors\, landscapes\, and invented worlds\, Kent transforms historical reference into contemporary compositions that hover between reality and imagination; “his works merge Renaissance perspective with modern imagery\, uniting architectural precision with expressive abstraction”\, as the gallery puts it.

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Miramar Al Nayyar: Hujra
DESCRIPTION:Tabari Artspace’s first exhibition at its new Alserkal Avenue location is a solo show for Miramar Al Nayyar\, curated by Abeer Seikaly. In Hujra\, Al Nayyar “traces how flow crystallises onto canvas\, how light becomes matter\, and how painting absorbs the sound of vision\, grounding the process in the rock’s enduring presence as both origin and silent witness …. The exhibition unfolds as a dialogue between artist and curator\, where inner states of consciousness take form through body\, material\, and space”.

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Richard Hearns: Threshold
DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibition by the Lebanese-Irish painter\, born in Beirut and adopted into Ireland to bear a dual heritage that shapes his artistic identity. This\, his first solo exhibition in the UAE\, presents a new body of work that reflects his ongoing exploration of gesture\, memory\, and place. In these canvases\, Hearns engages with the idea of thresholds through imaginary landscapes. Improvisation\, layering\, and revision are integral to his process\, where the presence of pentimento traces of prior marks and decisions becomes visible\, revealing the evolution of thought and movement.

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Lydia Nakashima Degarrod and Susan Ossman: Projects of Art Ethnography
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition brings together works by two artist-anthropologists with practices on the boundaries between scholarship and art. Their projects invite viewers to reflect on migration\, memory\, identity\, and the ways knowledge takes shape across bodies\, materials\, and stories. \nThe exhibition unfolds in six sections\, each anchored by a distinct project. Together\, these works and the projects they represent open a space where imagination\, intellect\, and emotion intersect. Visitors encounter not only completed artworks but also traces of their making – interviews\, documentation\, and collaborative processes – illuminating possibilities for associating ethnographic and artistic practices.

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Tor Seidel: Riposte
DESCRIPTION:Tor Siedel explores how ‘vandalism’ by environmental activists in triptychs that consider whether these attacks can also be considered performative acts of art. He focuses on the protagonists’ actionism\, the shock or entertainment value for visitors\, and the professional dissemination of videos of the attack groups on the internet; says the gallery\, “this leads him to conclude that these are not only ambivalent forms of protest\, but also independent artistic acts. With paint bombs and soup\, the actors succeed in transforming significant works of art in unexpected ways and creating new experiences within the museum environment”. \nSeidel reconstructs some of these attacks in three phases: a reenactment of the scene following the attack\, collecting statements from those involved\, and transforming the defacement into a new piece. The change\, whether lasting a few days or months during a complex or straightforward restoration\, means that the work has been forever altered by the presence of the videos filmed during the attack – “its transformation implies a new context of meaning that cannot be obscured”.

SUMMARY:The Story of Art Lecture: It’s All in the Details – the Dutch Golden Age
DESCRIPTION:Bassam Freiha Art Foundation continues its monthly lecture series led by Dr Michaela Watrelot\, BFAF Curator and Director of Exhibitions. This it’s the artistic flourishing of 17th-century Netherlands\, where prosperity and everyday life found new visual meaning – think Rembrandt’s introspective self-portraits and Vermeer’s serene domestic interiors. Still lifes\, genre scenes\, and cityscapes reveal a society reshaping the purpose of art\, offering a deeper understanding of how beauty emerged from observation\, detail\, and the rhythms of daily life.

SUMMARY:Naqsh Raj: Half Light
DESCRIPTION:With this exhibition Naqsh Raj “invents a personal tool for grounding and connection\, balancing order with anarchy\, discipline with instinct and darkness with sparks of illumination … The repetitive expression in her work hints at a longing for predictability\, while the grid becomes a framework of order that offers comfort. Within this structure\, vertical dashes appear as symbols of strength\, an elemental part of her visual language”. \nIn her paintings\, brushwork collides with the mechanical application of paint: the thickness of the paint invites a tactile response. The characteristic grid over her work contrasts with these impulses of freedom and Raj has a good relationship with geometry: she frequently activates a composition by dividing it into two\, opening space for a dual approach within the same frame. As the gallery puts it: “essentially\, her exploration in a self-imposed structure reveals a deep commitment to her evolving language”. \nTo 8 January. \n

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Whispers of Play
DESCRIPTION:A group show for three young Japanese artists that celebrates the playful sensibility at the heart of contemporary Japanese expression – “a sensibility that transforms familiarity into wonder\, nostalgia into dream” as the gallery has it. \nThese artists have used Japanese pop culture and anime icons as emotional textures rather than cultural symbols. Each work becomes a quiet act of translation\, between inner and outer worlds\, between collective memory and personal reverie. Yukari Nishi constructs scenes of estrangement and longing in a dreamlike vision of mid-century America with faceless\, non-human figures and cinematic settings. Koichi Yairi creates collages with irregularly shaped canvases and translucent layers to translate fragments of daily life into abstract narratives. NANA SAIAKU’s works recall the fragility of emotion and the resilience of youth.

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Art Here 2025
DESCRIPTION:The fifth edition of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here exhibition\, featuring six artworks by seven artists shortlisted for the Richard Mille Art Prize\, has been curated by guest curator Sophie Mayuko Arni under the theme Shadows – “exploring the interplay between light and absence\, visibility and concealment\, and the layered dimensions of memory\, identity\, and transformation”. \nThis year’s edition invited proposals from artists based in the GCC and Japan\, along with artists from the MENA region with a GCC connection. There were more than 400 submissions\, from which six were shortlisted for the Richard Mille Art Prize; the winner will be announced in December. \nThe exhibits: \nI remember a light: sculpture by Palestinian architect\, artist\, and researcher Ahmed Alaqra that reimagines shadows as urban traces\, referencing the traditional mashrabiya lattice screen. Made of stacked acrylic cubes containing 3D-printed shapes from shadow photographs of Sharjah\, the sculpture transforms fleeting encounters of light and architecture into enduring sculptural artifacts. \nEcho: an interactive light installation by Emirati artist and musician Jumairy. Visitors encounter a still water pond\, a single flower\, and ambient sound; reimagining the myth of Echo and Narcissus\, the work uses light and shadow to transform absence into intimacy and invite a deeper encounter with memory and the unconscious. \nskadw: an immersive audiovisual installation of light\, fog\, and sound by Japanese artist Ryoichi Kurokawa. Shadows are transformed into sculptural form; a single beam cuts through shifting mist\, creating ever-changing patterns of shadow and resonance. Inspired by the Japanese concept of Ma\, the beauty of negative space\, the work invites viewers into a meditative environment where absence becomes presence. \nTree Studies: the Kuwaiti-Pakistani artist Hamra Abbas has an installation of 31 stone inlay sculptures inspired by trees found in Pakistan and in the UAE\, including olive\, pomegranate\, and cherry. Using her distinctive lapis-on-lapis technique to create shadow-like foliage\, the works balance realism and abstraction. \nA Sundial for the Night Without End: a sculptural sundial conceived for a world after the sun by Japanese artist Rintaro Fuse. Formed from polished stainless steel\, the work reflects its surroundings while aligning three gnomons to past\, present\, and future North Stars. Installed beneath the museum’s dome\, it transforms cosmic time into a meditation on memory\, absence\, and the persistence of eternity. \nDancing shadows: a pavilion of swaying stainless-steel mesh\, inspired by traditional Kawachi weaving. Supported by slender columns\, the structure creates shifting patterns of shadow and light. Using recycled industrial material\, the architect duo YOKOMAE et BOUAYAD (Takuma Yokomae from Japan and Ghali Bouayad from Morocco) have created an installation that blends Tokyo and Marrakesh design traditions\, offering a poetic space where architecture moves like nature.

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Fereydoun Ave\, Raana Farnoud\, Shaqayeq Arabi: IMPROVISATIONS
DESCRIPTION:The artists in this group show have distinct visual languages that do find commonalities: they “transform the familiar through acts of care\, attention\, and intuitive play … a shared attentiveness to what is provisional\, such as a line that wavers\, a form that repeats with variation\, or a gesture made in passing but left to settle”\, as the gallery has it. \nIn Farnoud’s paintings\, forms hover between presence and disappearance. Ave’s works honour simplicity\, allowing small elements to settle into poetry. Arabi assembles delicate sculptures\, where fragility becomes a kind of resilience. \n“In a time that often demands spectacle\, these works ask us to slow down\, pay attention\, and find presence in the modest\, fragile\, and unresolved …”

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Fertile Dreams
DESCRIPTION:The group show brings together artists from the MENA region and its diaspora whose practices engage fertility as a generative force tied to questions of origin\, transformation\, and the cycles that govern land and self. Across drawing\, painting\, ceramics\, textiles\, and installation\, they turn to rhythmic repetition as a shared method of accessing unconscious and symbolic worlds; rooted in Surrealist philosophy yet resonant with the mystic patterns of Middle Eastern spiritual traditions\, their works open passages between body and land\, spirit and matter\, dream and physicality.

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Mohammad Alfaraj: Seas are sweet\, fish tears are salty
DESCRIPTION:The first institutional solo exhibition of Mohammad Alfaraj brings together installations\, photography\, video works and site-specific commissions that respond to the gardens and outdoor spaces of the Jameel. Central to Alfaraj’s practice is his use of storytelling\, both in written and oral forms; Alfaraj\, who lives and works in the Saudi oasis city of Al-Ahsa\, draws much of his source material from the area’s distinctive agricultural landscapes\, oral traditions and everyday life\, which he expands into universal stories and parables.

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Aliyah Alawadhi: Girl Parts
DESCRIPTION:“Childhood is a half-remembered taste: sweet\, sticky\, and sometimes spoiled.” In Girl Parts\, her first solo exhibition\, Aliyah Alawadhi expresses this residue in paint – bodies shimmering in pinks and creams\, mouths agape\, devouring and dreaming. Says the gallery: “These are not nostalgic visions of innocence but reimaginings of ‘girl’: an ancient inheritance of edicts around beauty\, shame\, and desire\, rewritten here with magic\, rage\, and much speculation”. \nThis Hunna Art exhibition is curated by Océane Sailly.

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Salma Dib: Marks of Return
DESCRIPTION:Drawing from the charged visual language of street walls in Palestine in this\, her first solo exhibition in the UAE\, Salma Dib transforms those surfaces of resistance into layered compositions that speak of loss\, resilience\, and collective memory. Her works – painting\, installation\, and textile – become vessels of remembrance\, where every mark holds the weight of history and the quiet persistence of a people. The exhibition invites viewers to move through fragments of memory and presence\, reflecting on how the act of return continues to shape identity\, community\, and the hope for what endures …

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Gil Heitor Cortesão: All That Is Solid
DESCRIPTION:Gil Heitor Cortesão’s fifth solo show at CARBON 12 (it is also the gallery’s 100th exhibition) presents a suite of large and small works extending his investigation into the fragile perceptive systems and architectures of modernity. Working with oil on plexiglass\, Cortesão constructs images that hover between coherence and dissolution\, framing painting as a system at once striving for and resisting cohesion; at the heart of this new body of work lies the artist’s ongoing series of photographs of modernist interiors and glass structures\, reconfigured and filtered by colour\, space\, and mood.

SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Ali Kaaf: The Fire’s Edge
DESCRIPTION:Ali Kaaf’s first solo exhibition at Ayyam Gallery features his seminal body of work\, the Rift series\, alongside selected works from his Helmet and Ras Ras series. \nThe Fire’s Edge evokes the fragile threshold where ancestral practices meet modern erasure – marking not only the line between scorched earth and fertile soil\, but also the vanishing space where knowledge\, ritual\, and ecology once intertwined. The title of the exhibition thus suggests a meditation on disappearance and persistence\, on how destruction\, drought\, and extraction cast a shadow over the possibility of renewal.
