SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Mulhaq: On Annexed Architecture and Peripheral Typologies
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition explores the quiet logic of annexed spaces and the peripheral architectures that shape everyday life across the Gulf. Through documentation\, case studies\, and spatial narratives\, it reflects on how these overlooked structures mediate between privacy\, family\, and urban form. The exhibition reflects ongoing research by Amer Madhoun\, co-founder of Collectus Design & Architecture Studio\, conducted as part of Bayt AlMamzar’s first design and architecture residency.

SUMMARY:A Journey into Architecture Archives: Tunis\, Baghdad\, Damascus
DESCRIPTION:As part of its ongoing institutional programming\, Sharjah Architecture Triennial presents what it terms a “new chapter” in a long-term research initiative dedicated to architectural archives in the Arab world. Building on the inaugural 2023 exhibition\, which focused on Beirut\, Cairo and Rabat\, Journeys into Architecture Archives was developed to foster knowledge production about the region from within its own communities\, while contributing to the development of a shared archival database. The project\, again curated by Lebanese architect George Arbid\, brings together rare archival materials\, physical models and newly commissioned documentary films to explore histories\, memories and unrealised futures across three pivotal Arab cities. \nTo mark the opening Arbid will present an online lecture from 3-4pm followed by a panel discussion and Q&A to 5.30pm – panellists include Salma Gharbi (architect and founding member and chair of Docomomo Tunisia)\, Zaid Issam (architect)\, Ahmad Salah (architect and co-founder and director of AMASyria) and Ola Seif (art historian). Arbid will moderate. \nTo 12 July.

\nThe exhibition reflects ongoing research by Amer Madhoun\, co-founder of Collectus Design & Architecture Studio\, conducted as part of Bayt AlMamzar’s first design and architecture residency. Developed over nearly three years\, the Mulhaq research residency has been conceived as a long-term process with outcomes that includes publications and the future renovation of BAM’s mulhaq (annex) as well as the exhibition itself. \nThis project is supported through the Modern Heritage Grant Program\, an initiative by the UAE Ministry of Culture\, in collaboration with Zayed University and Majra – National CSR Fund. \nTo 8 May.

SUMMARY:Another City is Possible: Mediating Architecture
DESCRIPTION:For the next event in its SAT03 public programme\, Sharjah Architecture Triennial presents a conversation on reimagining the city and the possibilities of architecture beyond its conventional boundaries. \nLed by Vyjayanthi Rao and Tau Tavengwa\, Curator and Associate Curator of SAT03\, the discussion will be moderated by Kenneth Bailey\, Co-founder of Design Studio for Social Intervention (DS4SI)\, an organisation that works on rebuilding public spaces to be more equitable and vibrant. \nThe conversation will look at the way urban space is produced not only through buildings and infrastructure\, but also through social relations\, narrative and cultural practice – which essentially is the conceptual framework of Architecture Otherwise\, theme of the SAT03 Triennial.

SUMMARY:Sites in Conversation
DESCRIPTION:A two-day symposium of readings\, discussions\, and shared meals as part of that unfolds across Sharjah as part of Sharjah Architecture Triennial’s DAAS programme. DAAS is Decolonizing Architecture Advanced Studies\, a programme with no fixed curriculum but instead an environment where “knowledge emerges through encounters\, conversations\, and shared practices”. \nThe DAAS programme moves between different sites: from Sharjah to Sicily\, from Palestine to Stockholm\, “and in the everyday contexts participants bring with them … This mobility reflects the shared condition of displacement\, while also rooting work in situated struggles”. \nSo each session is intended to unfold as a dialogue shaped by lived experiences and research. The programme: \nDay One Saturday 1 November 10am to 6pm\nAl Qasimiyah School\, Sharjah City \nLed by May Al-Dabbagh\, Zoe Butt\, Charles Esche\, and Shahram Khosravi\, these sessions have no fixed topics; instead they invite improvisation\, allowing unexpected connections and solidarities to emerge. \nDay Two Sunday 2 November 2m to 7pm\nConcrete Tent\, Al Madam (transportation provided) \nThe final gathering reflects on conversation as the central methodology of DAAS: “in this shared space\, the art of conversation becomes both a method and a horizon for future encounters – and for the forthcoming iteration of ‘DAAS in Cairo’.

SUMMARY:2025 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Abu Dhabi has been chosen as the host city for the 2025 Pritzker Architecture Prize – “in recent years\, the UAE’s growing presence in the global arts and culture landscape\, and openness in supporting the works of international architects provides a backdrop of newness\, reflecting the diversity within our mission and the selection of our Laureates and Jurors\,” said Tom Pritzker\, director of the Pritzker Foundation. “As three iconic buildings\, each designed by Pritzker Laureates\, Jean Nouvel\, Norman Foster and Frank Gehry\, redefine the skyline of this city\, Abu Dhabi lends a natural extension to our programme.” \nThis lecture by Liu Jiakun\, 2025 Pritzker Prize Laureate\, will have the title “On Land: A Model For Community”. It will be followed by a panel discussion including his three immediate predecessors: Riken Yamamoto\, David Chipperfield\, and Francis Kéré. “An informal reception will follow.” Should be good.
