DESCRIPTION:Jumana Emil Abboud’s first solo exhibition in the Emirates draws on the lineage of Palestinian folktales and their continued resonance in the present – how stories inhabit landscapes\, shape personal histories and collective memory\, and create an enchanted relationship to the landscape. \nThe works in this show are like traces and fragments left by the tide’s ebb and flow; “they drift across time and geography\, fact and mythology\, and are grounded in the context of the Palestinian struggle for liberation and return” says the gallery. “Mirroring the exhibition’s title\, the tide’s devotion to the moon’s pull and the storyteller’s slow telling prompt the central question of the exhibition: how do we carry light\, across oceans\, across ruins\, across silence\, without letting it be extinguished?”

DESCRIPTION:Maktaba is 421’s monthly gathering dedicated to collective reading\, viewing\, and discussion across disciplines. For its final iteration this season\, researcher and sonic practitioner Safeyya Alblooshi will guide the conversation around sound\, soundscapes\, and interventions within sound cultures; texts shared before the meeting contemplate the contemporary histories of sonic environments\, practices of sonic mapping\, and the ways vibrational frequencies shape our lived landscapes through anthropological\, socio-cultural\, and ecological frameworks. Participants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the materials in advance\, and to bring their own references and offerings to the discussion.

DESCRIPTION:The second edition of this “celebration of musical dialogue\, artistic collaboration\, and contemporary reinterpretation”. Headliner is the Syrian singer-songwriter Faia Younan\, known for her cinematic sound and poetic approach to Arabic music and her presenting a special set of her music reimagined through jazz-influenced arrangements created specially for this performance. \nAlso on the bill: \n– Ghaliaa\, Syrian-born UAE-based singer-songwriter\, composer\, and multi-instrumentalist (and Berklee Abu Dhabi PEARL graduate) with multiple album releases and a style that blends Arabic and English across R&B\, indie pop\, and jazz\n– Nikolai Mishchenko\, pianist\, composer\, and producer from Moscow (and a Berklee Alum and Berklee Abu Dhabi faculty member) who blends traditional jazz roots\, classical improvisations\, and electronic elements\n– Saif Al Ali\, Emirati singer\, oud player\, composer\, and Berklee Abu Dhabi PEARL graduate\n– Maisoon Mubarak\, UAE-based Egyptian singer who blends classical Arabic influences with contemporary pop through emotional storytelling. A Berklee Abu Dhabi PEARL graduate and UAE National Orchestra choir member\n– Nejma Alkoor\, Egyptian singer\, songwriter\, and musician based in Abu Dhabi. A graduate of Bait Al Oud (at 12!) and the Berklee Abu Dhabi PEARL programme\, currently a senior at Berklee College of Music \nThe concert will additionally feature “a special collaborative moment” with selected vocal students from the Berklee Abu Dhabi community\, “reflecting Berklee’s ongoing role as a platform connecting emerging and established voices from across the region”.
