SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Moza Al Falasi: Unfolding
DESCRIPTION:This first solo exhibition by the Emirati artist explores memory\, loss\, and the passing of time\, inviting reflection on how personal and inherited experiences leave their mark on who we are. She uses photography as her primary means of documentation\, alongside sound\, painting\, plaster\, and fabric. \nSays Al Falasi:“My work is deeply rooted in the complexities of inherited grief – the sorrow passed down through generations\, shaping identity in both visible and unseen ways … This inquiry became more profound following the loss of my parents and\, more recently\, my husband\, compelling me to examine grief not only as a personal experience but as an inherited weight that alters our inner landscapes. My art has become a means to navigate both the emotions of loss and the complexities of life\, revealing the deeply personal and collective experience of grief. Whether my practice serves as a form of healing or a visual documentation of grief remains uncertain.” \nThe exhibition is the culmination of her time with the Tashkeel Critical Practice Programme\, developing her practice across both research and production under the mentorship of Luisa Menano and Hanaa Bou Hamdan (the CCP provides UAE-based artists with 12 months’ funding\, studio access\, and mentorship).

SUMMARY:L'amore che ho: dir Paolo Licata (2025)
DESCRIPTION:A classic rags-to-riches story of a fierce\, gifted woman who rose against overwhelming odds from gruelling labour in the fields of Sicily to the most prestigious stages and huge audiences. In 1990\, the near-legendary Sicilian folk singer Rosa Balistreri was at the height of her career – but maybe also at the end of her life. As she tries everything she can to reconnect with her daughter\, Rosa’s memories of the past torment her and take her back to the most important moments of her life and work. She dedicated herself to defending the weak\, the working class\, and abused women\, and fought against every misuse of power; and at the same time\, she was close to the centre of Italian music\, theatre and art\, thanks to her encounters with the likes of Dario Fo\, Andrea Camilleri\, and Franca Rame. The title translates as ‘The love I have’; Rosa’s story reveals the soul of an extraordinary artist and the spirit of a rebel. \nThis biopic screens as part of Italian Film Week\, a curated programme of contemporary Italian cinema presented in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Abu Dhabi.

SUMMARY:Baarah
DESCRIPTION:A “gripping” Hindi adaptation of Reginald Rose’s classic courtroom drama film 12 Angry Men\, reimagined for contemporary India. Twelve jurors have to decide the fate of a young man accused of a brutal crime: inside the jury room\, personal biases\, social divides\, prejudice\, ego\, and conscience collide as one juror dares to question the verdict everyone else seems ready to deliver … Adapted and directed by Gautam Goenka\, and clearly something of a passion project for the Junction’s main man\, Baarah promises “an intense\, thought-provoking theatrical experience that explores justice\, morality\, and the power of standing alone for what you believe in”. \nIn Hindi\, with English subtitles. \nThere are further performances on 27 and 28 June.
