SUMMARY:Mulhaq: On Annexed Architecture and Peripheral Typologies
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition explores the quiet logic of annexed spaces and the peripheral architectures that shape everyday life across the Gulf. Through documentation\, case studies\, and spatial narratives\, it reflects on how these overlooked structures mediate between privacy\, family\, and urban form. \nThe exhibition reflects ongoing research by Amer Madhoun\, co-founder of Collectus Design & Architecture Studio\, conducted as part of Bayt AlMamzar’s first design and architecture residency. Developed over nearly three years\, the Mulhaq research residency has been conceived as a long-term process with outcomes that includes publications and the future renovation of BAM’s mulhaq (annex) as well as the exhibition itself. \nThis project is supported through the Modern Heritage Grant Program\, an initiative by the UAE Ministry of Culture\, in collaboration with Zayed University and Majra – National CSR Fund. \nTo 8 May.

Suhail is a young Emirati with autism\, living alone in the Fujairah mountains after his father shuns him. There he is at one with nature and has a kindness that infiltrates those who engage with him. When he crosses paths with a child caught in a storm\, it prompts him to set off on an unexpected an Arabian saluki in search of his mother’s family. On his travels toward Abu Dhabi the strangers he meets become friends … \nThe screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Zainab Shaheen\, writer Michelle Ziolkowski\, and actor Naser Almessabi. \nRegistration is free (and does not require a museum ticket) with seats allocated on a first-come\, first-served basis.
