SUMMARY:LAST CHANCE Saif Azzuz: Invisible Fish
DESCRIPTION:This first solo exhibition in the Middle East for the SF-based Libyan-Yurok artist takes its title from a poem by Joy Harjo\, which considers cycles of transformation across land\, water\, and time\, moving from submerged environments to human settlement and industrial presence. This show includes paintings\, works on paper\, sculpture\, and moving images\, tracing an ecological and cultural history of the UAE prior to large-scale urban development; Azzuz approaches land and water as lived\, relational systems rather than extractive resources\, foregrounding marine environments\, fishing practices\, and water as both sustenance and connective force across geographies. \nThrough material experimentation and research-driven enquiry\, Azzuz positions water not only as a subject but as a shared condition – one that links place\, history\, and the ongoing negotiation between human activity and the natural world. The Algae Bloom series of paintings are central to this\, with Azzuz working wet-on-wet so that paint bleeds\, drips and merges to produce organic forms that feel suspended and continuously evolving. So rather than literal depictions\, these works function as sensory impressions of aquatic ecosystems shaped by rhythm\, fragility\, and transformation …

SUMMARY:Global Positioning System
DESCRIPTION:A group exhibition dedicated to mapping and navigation systems\, “telling stories of fast cars and donkeys\, spinning globes and street barricades\, cosmic highways and broken bridges …” Curated by Indranjan Banerjee and Lucas Morin\, the exhibition presents a wide range of practices\, from research-based critical engagements with infrastructure projects to conceptual works that question the very perception of distance. It’s in two parts\, reflecting Art Jameel’s specific geographic footprint at two extremities of the Arabian Peninsula: at the Jameel in Dubai\, the show centres on navigation systems and mobility networks; at Hayy Jameel in Jeddah the exhibition (which runs 20 May – 17 October) focuses on cartography and mapping. \nTo 4 October. \nAbove: Fayçal Baghriche; Souvenir (2012)

SUMMARY:If Music Can Speak: The Moldau by Bedřich Smetana
DESCRIPTION:A lecture-performance with the Firdaus Orchestra that breaks down the music to reveal the hidden stories and craftsmanship behind the Bohemian composer’s symphonic poem\, a work which aims to evoke the flow of the Vltava River – in German\, the Moldau – through the Czech countryside to the city of Prague. The Moldau captures in music Smetana’s love of his homeland; live demonstrations will show how the music is built from its historical context to its rich orchestration before the orchestra gives a full performance of the piece.
