SUMMARY:Ahmad Nabil: Fetus Exodus
DESCRIPTION:A Jameel Library Commission by the Palestinian artist and educator that explores regional myths and legends through ten monthly texts – chapters in fact\, in digital form – that address an imagined foetus (referred to as a “child of myths”) as it prepares to be born. Through this imagined dialogue\, the foetus is introduced to mythological thought and encouraged to embrace a shared imaginarium. The chapters traverse the entire cycle from creation and birth to resurrection\, encouraging exploration of their commonalities while making space for differences. \nAfter its conclusion on 27 July you can still view the whole project here.

SUMMARY:Library Circles: Samar Halloum
DESCRIPTION:A workshop led by Palestinian architect and educator Samar Halloum as part of the public programmes for Jameel Library Circles. Halloum will present research developed through her fieldwork and interviews in Dheisheh Refugee Camp in Palestine\, some of which is currently on display in the Library (to 30 June); it examines how displaced communities influence the built environment over time through oral history\, communal practices and spatial adaptations to trace the continuity of the Musha’ system from Palestinian highland villages into refugee camps. \nThe workshop invites participants to engage in the active process of observing\, analysing\, inquiring and interpreting the documentation from this research; through writing exercises and open discussion\, the session encourages reflection on non-singular authorship and personal and collective meaning created in the reading of spaces\, images and research. \nSamar Halloum is an Assistant Professor at the American University of Sharjah. She previously served as the Design and Research Lead for the National Pavilion UAE at the 18th Venice Biennale Architettura.

SUMMARY:Ramona: dir Andrea Bagney (2022)
DESCRIPTION:Andrea Bagney’s debut feature\, largely shot in black and white in a stylistic nod to the French New Wave of the 1960s\, is a romantic comedy with a difference. After living abroad for several years\, Ramona and her boyfriend Nico return to Madrid where she hopes to restart her acting career. On the evening before her first audition\, she encounters a charismatic older man named Bruno. They walk together and head to a bar: there’s certainly friendship\, but could they also be falling in love? Then Ramona discovers that Bruno is directing the very same film for which she’ll be auditioning: awkwardness abounds … \nScreens as part of the Cultural Foundation’s week-long European Film Festival Abu Dhabi 2025. The films are given individual entries in the Agenda\, but they’re also all listed here. \n

SUMMARY:Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial: Bik Van der Pol’s The poem that jumps the fence
DESCRIPTION:Artist duo Bik Van der Pol (Liesbeth Bik and Jos Van der Pol) engage in collaborative projects on how art constructs public spaces for speculative thought and collective creativity. The poem that jumps the fence features weekly performances on Abu Dhabi Beach and workshops connecting words and sand as real and symbolic material that binds our world; every Sunday afternoon\, a performer writes a poem in the sand\, only for it to fade away. During workshops in collaboration with local poets and writers\, participants generate text for the performances. \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Government Inspector
