SUMMARY:Art Connects Women
DESCRIPTION:Launched in 2017\, this annual initiative dedicated to empowering female artists and fostering gender parity in the creative industry includes a short-run exhibition which promises “an extensive array of art works by women artists from across the world” (we don’t know who’s showing). This year’s theme is ‘Leave a Legacy’\, inviting the artists to explore how their work can create a lasting\, meaningful impact on the world and their future generation. So no pressure then … \nThe ACQ programme also includes a guided cultural tour of Abu Dhabi on 9 April\, a celebratory dinner on 11 April (both invite only\, we understand) and a one-day conference on 10 April with the title 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆.

SUMMARY:To Know Malaysia is to Love Malaysia: Major Highlights from The AFK Collection
DESCRIPTION:A group show by pioneering first-generation Malaysian contemporary artists\, selected from The AFK Collection — the most comprehensive collection of Malaysian contemporary art from the 1980s to the present. Exhbiited artists include Ahmad Shukri Mohammed\, Ahmad Fuad Osman\, Ali Nurazmal\, Anniketyni Madian\, Fauzan Omar\, Hamir Soib\, Masnoor Ramli\, Susyilawati Sulaiman\, Yusof Ghani\, and Zulkifli Yusoff. \nThe featured artists have witnessed Malaysia’s transformation from a largely agrarian\, newly independent country to a modern\, dynamic nation. As well as highlighting the individual artists\, the exhibition will address critical aspects of that journey; by contextualising these works within broader social and political frameworks\, the exhibition aims to create a broader understanding of contemporary Malaysian society. \nTo 13 September. \nAbove: Ahmad Fuad Osman\, Midnight Song (Mulu)

SUMMARY:Hadieh Shafie: Resonant Turns
DESCRIPTION:Hadieh Shafie uses ink\, paint and paper as material for works that abstract text into form\, evoking different optical perspectives; her reliefs comprise circular or cone-shaped scrolls inscribed with Farsi poetry and her own writing in acts of concealment\, fragmentation and distortion. Her visual language\, a form of mark-making\, is multi-layered and arises from a profound understanding of words as an energetic charge\, colour as emotion\, and repetition as a kind of spiritual practice. To 21 April. \nAbove: Hadieh Shafie\, Saayeha Phalo Blue (2023)
