SUMMARY:Mariana Oushiro: The Higher We Soar
DESCRIPTION:This solo exhibition by the Japanese-Brazilian artist marks the culmination of her V-Residency programme at Volery\, during which Oushiro has developed a new body of work that (according the gallery) “pushes the boundaries of abstraction\, inviting the viewer into a dynamic exploration of movement\, perception\, and spatial depth”. \nOushiro’s practice is characterised by bold strokes of colour and geometric forms\, drawing from the expressive vibrancy of Brazilian art and the precision of Japanese aesthetics. The Higher We Soar is “an invitation to experience abstraction as a visceral\, multi-sensory language—one that speaks to both the intellect and intuition\, navigating the space between rigour and release\, stillness and motion”. \nTo 5 April.

It’s moderated by Duygu Demir\, NYUAD Art Gallery Curator. \nShort Circuits features essays\, interviews\, and documentation that highlight Vikram Divecha’s interest in the often invisible structures of planning\, construction\, demolition and maintenance. Divecha’s installation El Dorado (2022)\, featured in the publication\, is currently on view at the NYUAD Art Gallery as part of Between the Tides: A Gulf Quinquennial. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Courtyard’s most peopular evening of elimination improv in an all-female version for one night only\, in celebration of International Women’s Day\, Ten of Dubai’s virtuoso female actors converge for a night of scenes\, songs and games based on audience suggestions. After each round you score the players on a scale of 1 to 5\, and the one with the lowest score is knocked out. Eventually only one remains\, to be crowned the Maestro. “Fast-paced\, unpredictable\, and hilarious” says the promo\, and you couldn’t argue with that. As with all Courtyard improv evenings it’s free\, but you need to put your name on the guestlist (via the website); and it’s first-come first-served\, so get there early to grab a seat. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
