DESCRIPTION:Nadine Ghandour’s first solo exhibition in the UAE\, curated by Dawn Ross\, features recent works informed by her experiences in various cities\, including Dubai\, Sharjah\, Cairo and Rotterdam. Working with drawing\, writing\, performance and sculpture\, Ghandour creates works that depict imagined (and often farcical) situations set within cities\, exploring the impact of rapid urban development on those environments. “The fast-forward city gives rise to characters who are chronically uncertain”\, says the gallery\, “navigating and coexisting within these fragile architectures\, while constantly teetering on the brink of change or collapse”. \nTo 18 May.

DESCRIPTION:Artist duo Bik Van der Pol (Liesbeth Bik and Jos Van der Pol) engage in collaborative projects on how art constructs public spaces for speculative thought and collective creativity. The poem that jumps the fence features weekly performances on Abu Dhabi Beach and workshops connecting words and sand as real and symbolic material that binds our world; every Sunday afternoon\, a performer writes a poem in the sand\, only for it to fade away. She idolises her parents\, but as she struggles with the everyday insecurities and challenges of growing up\, a feeling of isolation starts to overcome her; Bo-ri begins to resent her ability to hear as it causes her to feel alienated from them.
