The previews look great\, and the watery additions do add to the circus skills on show. Thierry Antonios\, founder and Managing Partner at Cirque Du Liban\, described Fontana as “a perfect blend of creativity and strategic partnership\, enhancing the vibrant cultural tapestry of Abu Dhabi … we are excited to share this extraordinary experience with the audiences of Yas Island”. \nIt all happens in a purpose-built big top circus tent near twofour54. There are shows from 7 April to 26 May.

DESCRIPTION:The inaugural exhibition of the Lebanese-British artist at this gallery\, where she has recently joined the roster. \nAya Haidar’s practice addresses themes related to womanhood\, invisible labour\, forced displacement\, Homeland and territory\, social constructs and inequalities; positioned at the intersection of art\, politics\, and society\, her work explores her web of experiences as a mother\, woman\, artist\, and humanitarian worker. \nBattlegrounds portrays women and their bodies as sites of battle\, caught in crossfire and subjected to the ultimate sacrifice under patriarchy\, hegemony\, and conflict rings. Womanhood\, motherhood\, and domesticity unfold through textiles as the primary medium\, with the exhibition including both retrospective works and newly produced pieces. \n

Salomé Chatriot’s work merges technology with organic elements to suggest a harmony between human and machine\, advocating for a future where technology and humanity coexist. In her work\, physical processes like breathing and heart beating activate mechanical processes\, resulting in a symbiosis between human bodies and technological devices. While refusing to embrace a prevailing pessimism about technological progress\, she seeks for opportunities to expand our intimate relationships with technologies. In addition\, she explores issues of identity\, gender and sexuality through a distinctly erotic component\, while it also challenges dominant narratives. Through her hybrid\, disturbing yet optimistic artistic language\, Chatriot is capable of generating unconventional approaches relating to technological tools. Yet there’s no pessimism about technological progress\, just an exploration of opportunities to expand our relationships with it. And alongside that her 3D works consider issues of identity\, gender and sexuality with a distinctly erotic component … \nTo 15 May.

DESCRIPTION:‘Pettee’ is a word with multiple meanings in the languages of millions of people (Malayalam\, Tamil\, Gujarati\, Marathi\, Hindi) but one is instantly recognised: container\, and by extension box\, briefcase\, casket\, coffin … It is a word with weight for the rootless or the displaced. In this show\, presented with Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels\, dancers and fabricated landscape lead the audience into an immersive world of movement and music and flight\, where bodies unbend\, lunge and soar\, to unseal and unpack years of youth\, where multiple futures\, each magical\, seemed possible. \nPlotting to make that dream of weightlessness real are writers Deepak Unnikrishnan and Karthika Naïr\, composer Sarathy Korwar and his musicians\, set and lighting designer Willy Cessa\, illustrator Appupen (George Mathen)\, rigger Simon Nyiringabo\, and three choreographers/performers – Wanjiru Kamuyuyu\, Saju Hari\, Ali Ben Lotfi Thabet. \nDeepak Unnikrishnan is a writer from Abu Dhabi. His book Temporary People\, a novel about Gulf narratives steeped in Malayalee and South Asian lingo\, has won several awards. \nThe performance is followed by a Q&A with the artists. There will be a second performance on 19 April\, though without the Q&A … \n  \n
